if seider/raymond keep the pace up this team will have a calder winner for the first time since 1964-65. Nedeljkovic could be in the conversation if he keeps up his excellent play.

That year, the 22 year old goaltender from Bracebridge, Ontario played in all 70 games while winning a league leading 40 of them as well as leading the NHL in shutouts with six. Keep in mind, this was during the Original Six era, when the talent was loaded from top to bottom as Crozier had to face sharpshooters such as Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Jean Beliveau, Frank Mahovlich, and Dave Keon. (and without a mask!!)

and the next year:

The following season, Crozier again lead the league again in games played and shutouts, and despite being injured for the last two games and losing to Montreal in the Stanley Cup Finals, Crozier won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs.

Kudos to not just the kids but the team. Seems that having DDk out is helping. This group is fun to watch - yes they make errs but all players do. Their recovery from the errs is quick and they move on. The one thing that bothers me is the smug face look on the supposed coach. I get the feeling he's thinking "I'm so lucky to have these kids". The guy irks me because he really isn't coaching.

On another note - I don't know you Jeremy or know your condition but I do enjoy your rehash of the games and can't imagine how hard it is for your sometimes. Keep up the faith.

Thanks for dropping by, Biff.

Jeremy's an incredibly strong guy; continuing to develop topics for the blog, watching games despite dealing with the consequences, and promoting cross-talk and friendly banter. He's a truly genuine and good person. I know from communicating with him that what he's dealing with right now is causing him to suffer, but he keeps on because he enjoys reading our posts and the good things that continue to happen between us all. He's just a good dude. And he REALLY does get into the weeds on plays/games/players/finances of the league & teams, etc... Makes a reader think hard and be analytical about hockey. I speak only for me, but thanks for passing on your good vibes, my friend. Drop in any time!!!

Was frustrating to see the game go into OT, but the Wings really looked like they controlled play during that 5mins. The shootout was tense, but seeing Larkin pop his shot was incredible. Erne for the sealer.....I still think he may be overpaid....

The game itself was an ebb & flow of emotions; Sieder's simply AMAZING. That kid's been getting more & more physical, has insane vision (eyes like my Mom, in the back of his head), and Raymond.....well, Everybody LOVES Raymond. He's something VERY special. The kids may not continue on their collective torrid pace, but they've re-energized Hockeytown and made us want to drink from Lord Stanley's silver Chalice. There are many good years ahead of this team. Ned's going to be a very strong G-man, and adding in Cossa will give us the long-desired 1A/B tandem we've screamed for over many years.

Thanks for the write-up, Jeremy. Take it easy, my friend. Faith, strength. May they be yours......See ya on the High Ground.

Not that I'm complaining about the Wings owning the majority of the possession in OT (that's exactly what you're supposed to do given the rules), but I think in order to re-inject some excitement into 3-on-3 OT the league really needs to find a way to restrict all the endless backtracking out of the zone, regrouping, and playing keep-away until you can line up the perfect play.

Not sure precisely what that'd look like. Maybe a rule that says you can't carry or move the puck back to your side of center once you've gained the offensive zone? Take out the blue line entirely so that teams don't have to waste 10-15 seconds resetting each time they retreat from the zone? Shot clock? Gotta do something IMO.

Interesting thoughts. When the OT concept was 1st proposed, I was wondering what it would look like, then I saw it and was OK with it; fast, possession-driven, etc... Now, it's kinda getting old. It's just like a big ole game of Keep-Away, and it is getting a bit tedious. I'm not a fan of changing it just for changes sake, but IF the NHL were to institute a change, it would have to have a major impact. I like the shot-clock idea, honestly: Blow the shot-clock and end up with a FO in your zone; shot-clock expires if not SOGs in the time allotted. I could go for that. Again, not saying it NEEDS to be done, but watching Keep-Away IS getting a bit sour.....

Maybe just not switching ends after the 3rd period would not make retreating back to center ice as effective because the "long change" is no longer a thing.

I like the idea of eliminating the blue line.

Raymond's waived off goal really bugged me. As soon as he dropped it I said it was offsides, really wasn't even close.

Seider has been amazing on the defensive end and even moving the puck in the offensive end. I think he needs to work on his shot a little more though. He seems to have a hard time finding lanes sometimes and just shoots it right into people. Pull a Lidstrom and just shoot it wide and get the rebound that way.

They need to do away with the long change in OT. That forces teams to play safer.

It had nothing to do with the long change, they werent tired and almost every time had absolutely no pressure on them, just lazy, unskilled players not knowing what to do with so much offensive zone space.
